For Your Prayers

The next meeting for Prayers and Meditation on December 10th will be the last in this format. However, the group continues to offer special prayers for those who ask, both on a regular basis in our own homes between 2.00 and 3.00 on the 2nd Monday, and also on request for particular needs. If you were unable to attend the monthly meetings, but would like to be a member of the continuing group please see Phyllis, who co-ordinates the phoning round for special prayers. If you have a special request for prayer also speak to Phyllis. The people on our list greatly appreciate your prayers.  Please take time to pray for the following people during the week, according to their needs.

Jean Fraser

Her many friends at St Matthew's will be sorry to hear of the sudden death of Jean Fraser last week. Jean was one of the first ladies to join the choir. She worked tirelessly for St Matthew's, she was on the Missions Committee in the 1950's, but most people will remember her for her cakes and her work with the Social Committee where her professional catering knowledge was a great asset. Funeral and committal will take place at St Matthew's on Wednesday 5th December at 2.30pm, followed by refreshments in the Church Hall.

Christmas leaflets

If you could deliver some leaflets around the Parish, giving details of our Christmas Services, please sign your name on the list at the back of the Church against the road(s) you would like to cover. Leaflets for some roads are now ready for delivery, so please take your bundle and deliver it if you have already signed up for a particular road.

Posada 2007 As in previous years Mary and Joseph (knitted, not real!) will be spending December travelling round Oxhey.  Sally

Gift Aid. If you are giving an offering in cash today and if you are a UK taxpayer, please, please use one of the blue Gift Aid envelopes in the book racks on the chairs and fill in your details on the front of the envelope before you put it into the collection.  It costs you no extra but increases the value of your gift to St. Matthew's by 22%, as we can reclaim the tax payable on your gift. Thank you!

Deanery Synod

Watford Deanery Synod held an OPEN meeting on 11 Oct 2007 at St Luke’s Church. Copies of the minutes are available at the back of church.  We will be sending our parish rep to a meeting in January for those interested in getting The Adult Education Programme started. The Rev Canon Dick Lewis and Mrs Helen Harding are leading their next trip on 8th–17th Feb 2008 and have held some places for Deanery members. Next meeting of Synod Monday, 21 Jan 2008 Anglican Methodist dialogues

Who’s Job?
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.  There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.  Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did.  Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.  Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it.  It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody, when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.  Jill Greenstreet found this on a tea towel in a bakery in Somerset.
