For Your Prayers

The next meeting for Prayers and Meditation on December 10th will be the last in this format. However, the group continues to offer special prayers for those who ask, both on a regular basis in our own homes between 2.00 and 3.00 on the 2nd Monday, and also on request for particular needs. If you were unable to attend the monthly meetings, but would like to be a member of the continuing group please see Phyllis, who co-ordinates the phoning round for special prayers. If you have a special request for prayer also speak to Phyllis. The people on our list greatly appreciate your prayers.  Please take time to pray for the following people during the week, according to their needs.

Stewardship Renewal Please fill in the pink sheet you were given when you came into church this morning. It lists different ways in which your help is needed to maintain St. Matthew’s, support the present congregation and reach out to others in the local area. If you already help, filling in the form is an opportunity to renew your commitment and it will help the Parish to have a record of who does what. It may be that the list will give you other ideas of ways in which you could help and there’s an ‘I’d like to know more’ option if you’re not sure. You can give the form to a sidesman. It is also available on line on our website www.stmatthewsoxhey.org.uk

Christmas leaflets (Here's one way to help!) If you could deliver some leaflets round the Parish, giving details of our Christmas Services, please sign your name on the list at the back of the Church against the road(s) you would like to cover.

Posada 2007 As in previous years Mary and Joseph (knitted, not real!) will be spending December travelling round Oxhey. It seems a long time ahead, but I need names now so I can concoct a geographically sensible journey ready for Advent Sunday. Please sign the list at the back of church before Nov 17th. Sally

Deanery Synod

Watford Deanery Synod held an OPEN meeting on 11 Oct 2007 at St Luke’s Church. Copies of the minutes are available at the back of church.  We will be sending our parish rep to a meeting in January for those interested in getting The Adult Education Programme started. We were given an audiovisual presentation entitled “Peace needs Bridges not Walls : the Challenges of the Holy Land for Christians Today” by the Rev Canon Dick Lewis and Mrs Helen Harding, who have spent time visiting the Holy Land and befriending Christians there, who sadly now form only 1.4% of the population. These few Christians are doing tremendous work, running schools, a rehabilitation centre in Bethlehem and the Helen Keller School for the Blind.  We should do all we can to support them. He reported that he and Helen are leading their next trip on 8th–17th Feb 2008 and have held some places for Deanery members. Next meeting of Synod Monday, 21 Jan 2008 Anglican Methodist dialogues

Whose Job?
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.  There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.  Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did.  Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.  Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it.  It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody, when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.  Jill Greenstreet found this on a tea towel in a bakery in Somerset.
