Driven by prayer

The Christian Road Safety Association, founded in 1937 by the late Barbara Mackie MBE, describes itself as a 'caring and praying organisation'. It encourages prayer and vigilance for road safety, organises road safety services and also spreads its message through publications and a website. Here is the road safety prayer distributed to many churches across the UK for its annual day of prayer last year. Next year's event is on Sunday 11 May.

Christian roadsign

Loving Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your most precious gift of life
which no-one has the right to take away.
Send your blessing on all who use the roads today,
whether driving, riding or walking,
that they may be kept safe from harm.
Give all road users a sense of responsibility towards others;
that they may at all times show care, courtesy and consideration for others.
Bless, also, those who are called upon to deal
with the aftermath of accidents, including the police, fire brigade and paramedics,
that they may have the strength to cope.
Be with the relatives and friends of all victims of road accidents;
comfort and strengthen them to face the future.
Guide me, that I may do nothing to cause harm
to anyone else or myself.
Keep me, and all those I love, safe in all our journeying.
We ask these things through your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
