St Matthews in 1911

St Matthew's parish was founded in 1879 and the picture shows the church in 1911. This history describes:

The origins of Oxhey A murderous king, monks, Vikings, Henry VIII and the creation of a new parish.

The Church Finding a site and building the church with donations from Mr Blackwell of Cross & Blackwell and W H Smith MP.

The Interior Including a copy of the 1007 Charter of Æthelred the Unready and a memorial to the pilot who shot down the first Zeppelin.

Other church buildings Past and present, including Oxhey Chapel, desecrated by Oliver Cromwell's troops in the Civil War.
